Why is mac book pro better for photoshop3/12/2023 Apple’s iMovie application takes advantage of Quick Sync Video to speed up video processing, which explains why those two Macs perform so much better on this one test than the new Mac Pro.Īpple updated its professional video editing application, Final Cut Pro X, to take advantage of the new Mac Pro hardware. The Xeon processors in the new Mac Pro do not. Both the iMac and MacBook Pro use Intel Core processors that include Intel Quick Sync Video’s hardware acceleration support. Update: As was pointed out to us by a couple of astute Macworld readers, the reason for the performance difference lies with Intel’s Quick Sync Video technology. The new Mac Pro was the fastest Mac Pro in that test, but at 170 seconds, it lagged well behind the Retina MacBook Pro’s 63-second result and the CTO iMac’s very impressive 47-second time. We use iMovie’s Enhance feature and exported as a 720p movie. The strangest result was our iMovie test that uses some iPhone 5s slo-mo video footage. The new Mac Pro did well on graphics tests, especially compared to the older Mac Pros, but the 27-inch iMac’s Nvidia GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB of RAM performed a bit better in one test (Cinebench’s GPU benchmark) than the workstation-class D700 graphics in the new Mac Pro.
